VFW Post 9182

The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans’ pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, as a result of amalgamations over a period of years since 1899 of five separate foreign service organizations that had the same ideals and similar requirements for membership. On May 28, 1936, Congressional Charter incorporated the VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES.

As defined by section 230102 of the Congressional Charter The purpose of this corporation shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable and educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.

Our Post was chartered on June 19, 1947.  Along with our Auxiliary we are involved in many projects and activities that provide services to our local community, youth and veterans.  As you browse the pages of this site you will see an array of services that we provide..

We have a very diverse group of veterans and are very proud of them all.

Floyd E. Breedlove was born in Katy, Texas, to J. Edson and Ethel Breedlove in January 1917.  His father, Edson, worked as a mechanic at a garage in town. Edson passed away in 1929, leaving his mother, Ethel, to raise Floyd and his sister, Olive.  They lived and grew up in what is now considered “Old Katy” and attended public schools, with Floyd graduating from Katy High School in 1934.
